Dark blue and white represent the ocean and ice which suggest the dual environments of Alaska and Florida. The life ring is symbolic of maritime search and rescue and reflects the crew's dedication to protect and serve the people of the United States. The crossed lightning bolts and compass rose reflect the island's role in LORAN navigation and safe navigation.
CREST
The stylized waves represent the varied weather hardships and other difficult life situations that are part of cutter life. The fox, known for its cunning nature and elusiveness, is an endangered species but is one of the largest animal populations on Sitkinak Island. The seventeen linked chain represents the number of crew members aboard the ship and how they are only as strong as their weakest link.
